SAA Notes
Amaziah was a man with a disloyal heart. When he listens to the Word of God, he is blessed with victory. He becomes proud of his success and worships God according to the ways of the Edomites. Pride leads him to a great fall.
SJA Notes
* Dear Lord, You take pleasure in us Your people, You adorn the humble with salvation.
“After Amaziah came from striking down the Edomites, he brought the gods of the men of Seir and set them up as his gods and worshiped them, making offerings to them.”
Amaziah, a king who started out doing what was right in the eyes of the LORD, ends up setting other gods, idols, as his own!
Do we do this?
Amaziah was someone who listened to God at times, but then at times rejected God.
We cannot live in two camps. We are either with the Lord or against Him.
If there is something in our lives that promotes opposition to God, that rejects His wisdom, His word – Then we need to hear what God has to say to Amaziah,
“Therefore the LORD was angry with Amaziah and sent to him a prophet, who said to him, ‘Why have you sought the gods of a people who did not deliver their own people from your hand?'”
Let us seek first God and His kingdom, let us flee from any idolatry however it presents in our lives.
* Faithful God,
Please mark us as a faithful people – Faithful to You and You alone.
Please show us today what You want us to understand.
Please help us to not be like Amaziah, but to keep our eyes fixed on You.
Amen.
