Have you ever wanted something to happen or come or be, so that you prayed with the fervour of these verses: 145-152? Prayer, suffering, persecution, petition – the Word of God applies to all these situations.

SJA Notes

How clear we see here true “heart” religion!

The Psalmist cries out to the Lord for help, with his whole heart, trusting that God will rescue him.

“Consider how I love your precepts! Give me life according to your steadfast love.” v159 – Again we see the link between God’s word, His law, His commandments, and LIFE!

Look at this heart!

“I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love your law.” v163

“My soul keeps your testimonies; I love them exceedingly.” v167

“My lips will pour forth praise, for you teach me your statutes. My tongue will sing of your word, for all your commandments are right.” v172-173

“I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight.” v174

This is not a wayward faith, a two-faced belief system, a shrivelled and dry religion.

This is God’s love at work! TRUE RELIGION!

This is a HEART after GOD’S OWN.

How we are to long for God’s word, for His precepts and commandments, for they are life! They are wisdom! They are our help and salvation!

Let’s be encouraged to work out our faith with fear and trembling, because God’s people are to be heart-followers of Jesus, true and real religion flowing through them.

Let us long for the Lord’s salvation. Let His law be our delight!
