Have you ever wanted something to happen or come or be, so that you prayed with the fervour of these verses: 145-152? Prayer, suffering, persecution, petition – the Word of God applies to all these situations.

SJA Notes

* Holy God, we long for Your salvation, may Your law be our delight!

“Consider how I love your precepts! Give me life according to your steadfast love.”

How clearly here we see what true “heart” religion is.

The Psalmist cries out to the Lord for help, with his whole heart, trusting that God will rescue him.

Look at this heart!

“I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love your law.”

“My soul keeps your testimonies; I love them exceedingly.”

“My lips will pour forth praise, for you teach me your statutes.”

“I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight.”

This is not a wayward faith, this is not a two-faced belief system or a shrivelled and dry religion. This is not compromise with the world.

This is God’s love at work – TRUE RELIGION!

This is a heart after God’s own heart.

We are to long for God’s word, His precepts and commandments, for they are life! They are wisdom and help and salvation.

Let us be encouraged to be heart-followers of Jesus. Let us long for the Lord’s salvation. Let His law be our delight!

* Mighty God,

Thank You for Your WORD that gives us life!

Please help us to be true religion in the world around us today. To point people to Jesus.

Amen.
