Jesus is coming! This thought is repeated throughout these closing verses. May those people we pray for all come to say: Amen. Come Lord Jesus!

* God Above, You are holy. We are Your people whom You have chosen. Please teach us today from Your word.

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.”

Here we are at the very last passage in God’s word, His testimonies to us, His precepts and laws and commands.

And here we read that Jesus, God’s word become flesh – THE WORD has been sent as a testimony _for us_.

We are “the churches”, throughout the span of time and location across the earth.

God’s word is alive for us today. This is not a wishful exuberant thought, but a deep reality.

Jesus knows and knew each of us at the time John wrote this revelation. He was speaking about us.

Praise God for His word!

Here at the end we see the culmination of Him working together all things for our good – We are to be encouraged, convicted, exhorted and rebuked.

At the end – Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

* Almighty God,

We praise Your Name!

You are good and just, right and true.

No lie comes from You, Your love is steadfast and without end.

You are the TRUE God, there is none like You.

You are the Creator God who is preparing for us a place, making all things new.

You are Father, Son and Spirit – Three Persons, One God, at work for our good.

You are God, and we praise Your Name!

Amen.

Shameful, deceitful and impure are adjectives of hell, not heaven. I have a responsibility to turn away from such today. When Christ returns, the Garden of Eden will become the Garden in the midst of the Holy City!

SJA Notes

* God of steadfast love and faithfulness, please humble us today with Your word to us.

“And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.”

Here is a wonderful thing to look forward to.

The full revelation of our God of light. That this new creation itself will have fundamental changes from the old.

No longer will there be a burning sun by day and a glowing moon by night.

Instead the glory of God will radiate, the Lamb as a lamp.

Our King Jesus is the Lamb.

It is His book of life we read of here and elsewhere.

The Lamb is the one slain from before the foundation of the world.

He is the sacrifice once for all.

Jesus. The Lamb.

And He is our lamp, God’s word become flesh – A lamp for our feet and a light for our path.

* Faithful God,

Thank You for Your promise of eternal life that is described a little more here – That You will be our light.

Thank You that You are the God of light!

Thank You for writing our names in the Lamb’s book of life.

Amen.

* Mighty God, Your word tells us we will all stand before You at the final trumpet. Please help us understand.

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.”

There are so many veins of deep theology in this passage!

One of these is our understanding of what the inheritance for God’s people looks like, what God has been building (John 14), the place prepared.

It is a new heaven and a new earth!

It is a joining together of God and man in final full complete perfection, God dwelling with us, we His people, He our God.

This new dwelling place is the holy city, new Jerusalem, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband – This is us!

And how important are these words about this place being prepared for us,

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

This inheritance being prepared for us is one without the travail of this life (the former things have passed away).

Our struggle, our pain, our heartache and sorrow and loss – These are temporary.

Praise God for that!

* Dear God,

Hallelujah, we praise Your Name!

Thank You that You are preparing for us such a place as we read here!

Please fix our eyes on You today.

Amen.
