Jesus is coming! This thought is repeated throughout these closing verses. May those people we pray for all come to say: Amen. Come Lord Jesus!

SJA Notes

Here we are at the last passage in God’s word.

There are so many nuggets of worth here, we could spend time unwrapping them all and still have more to dwell on and unpack!

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendent of David, the bright morning star.”

God’s word is for us!

Not just in a general sense, but deeper – Jesus, God’s word become flesh, His words THE WORD, has sent testimony for us.

We are “the churches”.

God’s word is alive for us today. This is not a wishful exuberant thought, but a deep reality.

Jesus knows and KNEW each of us at the time John wrote this, and in the prophetic nature of the vision when Jesus spoke it.

Praise God for His word!

Here at the end, where we see the culmination of Him working together all things for our good – We can be encouraged, convicted, exhorted and even rebuked.

At the end, Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

* Almighty God,

We praise Your Name.

You are good and just, right and true.

No lie comes from You, and Your love is steadfast and without end.

Your faithfulness is to all generations.

For You are the TRUE GOD, there is none like You.

You are the God who protects His people, working all things for their good.

You are the Creator God who is making all things new.

You are Father, Son and Spirit – At work for our good.

You are the Lamb slain from before the world began, and You have written our names in the Lamb’s book of life!

Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

Shameful, deceitful and impure are adjectives of hell, not heaven. I have a responsibility to turn away from such today. When Christ returns, the Garden of Eden will become the Garden in the midst of the Holy City!

SJA Notes

“And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.”

Here is a wonderful thing to look forward to.

The full revelation of our God of light. That (the new) creation itself will fundamentally change.

No longer will there be a burning sun by day and a glowing moon by night.

Instead the glory of God will radiate visibly, the Lamb as a lamp.

It’s interesting too that John very clearly calls out “the Lamb” a number of times here.

It is the Lamb’s book of life that has been referred to on many occasions.

The Lamb is He who was slain from before the foundation of the world.

He is the sacrifice once for all.

Jesus. The Lamb.

And He is our lamp, as God’s word become flesh – A lamp for a feet and a light to our path.

* Faithful God,

Thank You for Your promise of eternal life, that we see described in part here in this passage, that You will be our light.

Thank You that You are the God of light!

Thank You for writing our names in the Lamb’s book of life.
