The Jews celebrate with a feast. They still celebrate this feast in the 21st Century. This book is a memorial to the Lord. He didn’t just work right back at the beginning with Moses. He is there TODAY!

SJA Notes

How the fortunes of God’s people have turned, and in exile, in a foreign land!

Haman’s plot is revealed by Esther to the king. Haman is hanged. And the Jews are given the decree that allows them to fight back against their enemies.

And it’s this verse that captures just what this meant, “And many from the peoples of the country declared themselves Jews, for fear of the Jews had fallen on them.”

God’s promise to Abraham is here, all nations of the earth being blessed!

And more, as we think of us as God’s people we can look forward to the beautiful city in Revelation 20, Holy Jerusalem. Radiant like a most rare jewel. Streets of gold.

The THRILL of hope that we have! Hallelujah, come Lord Jesus, come.

Robbing God! These words startle now as then. How do I rob God? This is a good question to ask yourself. 4:5,6 closes the Old Testament with the coming of John the Baptist prophesied. John the Baptist opens the New with his testimony of Jesus.

SJA Notes

So much promise in this reading, so much of God’s justice and His love.

This was a word for Israel, as they went into hundreds of years of quiet before Jesus.

And it is absolutely a word for us, as we walk this road today.

“The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.”

This truth is layered over at the end of the New Testament too (Revelation 19-20).

The end of things for those who are outside of Christ, it is fire. The lake of fire that burns with sulfur.

As we end the year, this is good for us to be reminded of. That our unbelieving friends and family need Jesus!

“But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings.”

This is Jesus, the SON OF RIGHTEOUSNESS!

And He rises with healing in His wings – He has bought us, healed us, whistled for us to call us home.

We are His sheep, He is our Good Shepherd.

  • Father God,

As we finish another year, we give You thanks!

Thank You for saving us, for healing us. Thank You for Jesus, the Son of righteousness. Thank You for Your word, that encourages and convicts us. Thank You for Your Spirit, who writes Your Spirit upon our hearts.

Please bless and keep us for another year.

Jesus is coming! This thought is repeated throughout these closing verses. May those people we pray for all come to say: Amen. Come Lord Jesus!

SJA Notes

Here we are at the last passage in God’s word.

There are so many nuggets of worth here, we could spend time unwrapping them all and still have more to dwell on and unpack!

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendent of David, the bright morning star.”

God’s word is for us!

Not just in a general sense, but deeper – Jesus, God’s word become flesh, His words THE WORD, has sent testimony for us.

We are “the churches”.

God’s word is alive for us today. This is not a wishful exuberant thought, but a deep reality.

Jesus knows and KNEW each of us at the time John wrote this, and in the prophetic nature of the vision when Jesus spoke it.

Praise God for His word!

Here at the end, where we see the culmination of Him working together all things for our good – We can be encouraged, convicted, exhorted and even rebuked.

At the end, Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

* Almighty God,

We praise Your Name.

You are good and just, right and true.

No lie comes from You, and Your love is steadfast and without end.

Your faithfulness is to all generations.

For You are the TRUE GOD, there is none like You.

You are the God who protects His people, working all things for their good.

You are the Creator God who is making all things new.

You are Father, Son and Spirit – At work for our good.

You are the Lamb slain from before the world began, and You have written our names in the Lamb’s book of life!

Hallelujah, what a Saviour!
