SAA Notes
This is a most wonderful exposition – Stephen shows the chief priests the prophetic meaning of their history as a people. Think about verses 17-20. What encouragement is there for understanding God’s providential dealings with us?
SJA Notes
* Loving God, please teach us today from Your word of our need for You, and Your love and powerful salvation for us.
“And the patriarchs, jealous of Joseph, sold him into Egypt;”
Stephen understands.
We are all sinners, broken without ability to fix or save ourselves.
Stephen isn’t dismissive of the sons of Jacob, nor is he dreamy/blind to them, those that became the heads of the tribes of Israel.
Instead he acknowledges their behaviour. The truth of their actions.
This is important for us to grasp.
Often we can raise people up, fallen human beings, up to levels of importance beyond the reality of who they are.
There is only one that can be raised up, only one who is worthy – Our King Jesus!
* Father God,
Please help us to seek Your glory today, Yours alone.
Please help us to fix our eyes on Jesus, Him alone.
Please remind us of the truth of who we are, and the wonderful truth of who You are and what You have done and continue to do for us.
Amen.
