A watchman for God’s house! Ezekiel’s job as God’s prophet was to sound the warning. What people did with that warning was not his weight. Notice in 33:31 God requires the practice of what we hear – as Jesus re-iterates in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 7:24-27).
SJA Notes
* Holy God, may we hear the watchman crying Your word to us, and listen and do.
“Yet your people say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just’, …”
The problem for Israel is the same one we face today.
The mindset of “The way of the Lord is not just.”
Think about the world around us today.
Think of the worldly wisdom that seeks to make us feel bad and foolish, arguing that belief in our Creator God is futile and a crutch and only for the weak-minded.
What is God’s response to this so-called wisdom?
“I will judge each of you according to his ways.”
This is a strong and important less to hear and wrestle with.
What do we do when we are tempted to think that our God is LESS, or NOT MUCH, or even HE MIGHT BE WRONG ABOUT THAT OTHER THING.
Remember Isaiah 55,
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Hard words for us to accept.
But how good they are for the believer! That we have such a God as this!
* Gracious Father,
You are above all others. You are God.
Your ways and thoughts are so far beyond and above us.
Please help us to take refuge in this. That is might be STRENGTH for us.
Amen.
