November 1, Reading 2 – Ezekiel 14, 15

Audio, Visual

SAA Notes

An idol is our own idea of God! This is why meditative reading of the Bible is so important – we are challenged with who God really is. While the church needs people of Noah’s calibre, such people cannot save the Church! More than great leaders we need Jesus to pour out His Spirit upon us in revival!

SJA Notes

What does God want from us?

“… That I may lay hold of the hearts of the house of Israel, who are all estranged from me through their idols.”

Idolatry is clearly a heart-problem. One that God commands us to repent of, to turn to Him instead, at every point we are tempted otherwise, and to keep turning back to Him.

Because our God’s desire is that we are His people and that He is our God! (this refrain is repeated many times through the scriptures, and we see it here)

“… That the house of Israel may no more go astray from me, nor defule themselves anymore with all their transgressions, but that they may be my people and I may be their God, declares the Lord GOD.”

And as Stuart Snr points us to, how can we turn from idolatry? How can we as His people, His church, repent and turn away?

Even the best of us cannot help, not one bit!

WE NEED JESUS – As His cousin John made very clear, repentance and belief must be grounded in Him, in His work, His salvation, His word.

Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

* Gracious Father,

Thank You that Your message to us is the same in the Old and New Testaments of Your scriptures. That You want us to be Your people in truth, and that You would be our God.

Please help us in this Lord, please help us because we cannot help ourselves.

And we thank You for Jesus – Your help. For Your Spirit poured out on us, that enlivens us, that brings us along the narrow road, each day, prompting and encouraging, convicting and disciplining.

Thank You!
