SAA Notes

Verse 18: The Pharisees and the Sadducees were in no doubt that Jesus taught that God was His Father in a special way. The doctrine of the Trinity flows from the lips of Jesus Himself. Jesus’ healing on the Sabbath was ample testimony that the God of Abraham was working through Jesus on the Sabbath.

SJA Notes

“Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.”

Here we have a passage full of God’s relationship as Father and Son, two persons of the Trinity.

We must be careful in our theology, in our thinking about God, to distinguish the Father, Son and Spirit.

And particularly here, to refute those who would say Jesus is not God.

Clearly the Jews, smart and intelligent people, wanted to kill Jesus because He was saying He was God the Son to God the Father.

One purpose God has is that the Father hands over judgement to the Son, so that all may honor the Son as they honor the Father.

Here is a strong relationship between Father and Son, not God and a powerful being created by God.

Let’s be encouraged to see Jesus as He is.

* Father God,

Please help us to grow each day in our understanding of You.

Please help us when faced with arguments on who You are.

Please help us to stand in You, and please continue to write Your word on our hearts, regardless of how well we can articulate our theology.

For You are our God. You love us, You have saved us. Father, Son and Spirit.

Thank You Lord God.

Amen.
