SAA Notes

God’s judgment is not something wealth or position can save you from. The Day of the Lord will be the finish of the Devil, sin and death, as well as human tyrants – see verse 21.

SJA Notes

* Heavenly Father, please help us understand Your word this day.

“The earth staggers like a drunken man; it sways like a hut; its transgressions lies heavy upon it, and it falls, and will not rise again.”

Isaiah can be a difficult read in some ways. There is much of God’s judgement, which for some modes of thinking can be hard to grasp or handle.

But we have a God who delivered His word in full. And so we are able to determine what He tells us.

This earth will end. On that final day, there will be an end to this creation. Peter tells us in 2 Peter 3,

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved,”

So what hope is there? Is this earth that we live on and go about our seventy-odd years if blessed the end of things?

Peter goes on,

“But according to his promise we are waiting for a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

We look forward to a glorious future, one that this broken world cannot compare with!

In Revelation 21 we read,

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,”

God is building for us a new creation, one without tear or death, no mourning or crying or pain.

How good is this for us His people!

* Gracious God,

Thank You that You have promised us such an inheritance as glory! We praise Your Name, for You are generous and merciful.

Please help us tell those around us of this hope, to be full of courage that comes from You – Please help us Lord.

Amen.
