SAA Notes

Take a Trinitarian position on prayer. Pray to the Father (2). Persevere because you are petitioning a friend – the Son of Man (5-8). Know that in the gift of the Holy Spirit is God’s answer to your prayers (13). Consider John Bunyan’s catechism: Q. How does God the Holy Spirit save you? A. By His illumination, by His renovation, and by His prseveration. Think about what the gift of the Holy Spirit really is in Scripture, and not about what some Christian opinion may say it is!

SJA Notes

Notice the singular nature of the “good gifts” that God the Father gives to us.

“… How much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Our blessings come from the gift of the Holy Spirit.

He is the life-breath into dry bones, the worker repurposing us each day, the companion that sticks closer than a brother.

The good gifts are first and foremost the fruits of the Holy Spirit. These are, according to Paul in Galatians chapter 5, “… Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control;”

These are good gifts from the Father!

* Loving Father,

Thank You that when we ask You are a loving Father who loves to give good gifts to His children, and that You give to us Your Holy Spirit.

Thank You that the fruits of Your Spirit are such wonderful elements of our life here on earth.

Please help us more each day to seek to grow these fruits within us and in those around us.

Amen.
