June 15, Reading 2 – Amos 9

SAA Notes

Amos 9 declares that terrible New Testament truth: all have sinned – the wages of sin is death! But God’s judgment is tempered with mercy. God promises that He Himself will deliver man from sin, the Devil and death through David’s collapsed family (the fallen tent).

SJA Notes

“In that day I will raise up the booth of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins and rebuild it as in the days of old,”

How good is this word from the Lord! How heart-warming and overflowing with grace and mercy!

We see again another pointer to Jesus, great king David’s GREATER son.

It’s so very clear, as we walk each day through God’s word from start to end, that Jesus is all through it’s pages.

And here, long before Pentecost, before Jesus came in human form – Here we read of God’s great promise to Abraham – “… And all the nations who are called by my name,”

It was never plan B to bring all peoples to Christ! It was never a rush-job because Adam broke the world to have God’s people from every race and nation.

Take hold of these words, wring them out of the joy and hope in them, run them over and over through our minds and hearts.

“I will plant them on their land, and they shall never again be uprooted out of the land that I have given them,”

Oh what a day that shall be, when all sin is gone and God is dwelling with us His people in the remade heavens and earth!

* Gracious Father, here in this passage we see Jesus! Again, as we have so many times since Genesis and will continue to through Revelation.

Thank You that in Him anyone can come, from any tribe or nation, and be brought back into a right relationship with You.

Hallelujah, what a Saviour!
