Reading
SAA Notes
One major point in this reading is that the sin offering was only for unintentional sin, hence David’s Psalm 51 where he asks the Lord to cleanse him. There was no sacrifice that David could give that would do so! Hebrews 10:3,4 makes the same point. Old Testament religion is about grace!
SJA Notes
* Dear Faithful God, thank You for redeeming us Your people from life unto death, dealing with our sin through the sacrifice of Jesus – the Lamb slain from before the foundation of the world.
“… If it is the anointed priest who sins, thus bringing guilt on the people, …”
Why is it important that Jesus, our Great High Priest, was sinless?
Not only because He had to be the sacrifice without blemish that would be enough to atone for the sin of us His people.
Not only because He was the Son in perfect (without fault) obedience under the hand of the Father’s will.
Not only because He can intercede for us having gone through what we go through (remaining sinless, but enduring the pain of this life).
This passage teaches us that a priest who sinned brought guilt on the people of God.
It is therefore of great importance, critical and pivotal, that Jesus was sinless because as the true and forever High Priest who sits in power in glory, interceding at the hand of God the Father, He will never bring guilt on His people.
He takes away the guilt of our sin, as individuals and as a people (the Lamb slain) – But as well He will never bring guilt upon us as a priest who sins.
He is the Sinless One, Perfect and Holy.
Hallelujah – What a Saviour we have!
* Holy Father in Heaven,
You are holy, and You call us to be holy as You are.
Please fix within us a singleness of worship, offering up our very selves as living sacrifices.
Thank You for Jesus, You in the Person of the Son, who is a High Priest that never brings guilt upon us Your people.
Thank You Lord!
Amen.
