The call to Abraham has a powerful attraction. It is the promise to a childless man of children. This is a rich and ever deepening stream of promise that leads from here to the New Jerusalem where a great multitude that no one can count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, stands before the throne of God and in front of the Lamb.

SJA Notes

* Holy God in Heaven, thank You for teaching us through Your word, old and new testaments. Please show us more of You today.

“I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all families of the earth shall be blessed.”

Our God is a covenant-keeping God.

Here with Abraham are these well-read promises – And we rejoice that we see Jesus clear and present.

As Matthew started his gospel, the very first words, that Jesus was the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Jesus is the true fulfilment of all families of the earth, nations tribes and tongues, being blessed through Abraham.

Because He as fully God and fully man is able to keep both sides of the new covenant, enacted through the shedding of His blood. A sinless sacrifice so that we might go free.

The covenant God makes with us, children of Abraham through faith, is found here in His promises to Abraham.

Praise God, from Him all blessings flow!

* Dear God,

You made a covenant with Abraham, and we thank You for this covenant because we see Jesus in it.

Thank You that through Jesus we, people from all nations and tongues and tribes, are able to be Your people, to be brought into the blessings You bring.

Thank You for Jesus, the great Shepherd of us the sheep, through whose blood the eternal covenant is enacted.

Amen.
