Peter’s confession of Christ is followed by two very important events – Jesus’ words on His coming death, and His transfiguration. Moses got into the Promised Land – because of Jesus, to see Jesus! Jesus is Moses’ saviour too!
Remember what happened to Moses?
Numbers 20 tells us that Moses strikes the rock for water instead of speaking to it, and God responds, “Because you did not believe in me, to uphold me as holy in the eyes of the people of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land that I have given them.”
Moses did not enter the promised land!
Our vision of eternity is layered over with the understanding that we will be living in the ultimate promised land, the heavens and the earth made new.
And the crux of this hope is the same as with Moses.
Because even though Moses died outside the promised land, in and through Jesus he entered!
Matthew 17 v3 says, as Peter, James and John were up on a high mountain in Israel and Jesus is transfigured, “And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.”
Moses gains entry into the promised land through Jesus!
And so do we! John 14 tells us, after Thomas asks how we can know the way – “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Glory is where our heavenly Father dwells with us, His people. How do we get to the Father? Through Jesus!
Hallelujah, what a Saviour!
* Gracious Lord Above,
Thank You that we see in this passage the wonderful Saviour that brought Moses into the promised land. Thank You that Jesus is true and real and alive for those who lived in faith before Him, just as He is for us who come after Him in time.
Thank You for Jesus!
