These visions are repeated in Revelation – with differences. The scroll and its seven seals and the Lamb, the Angel and the Little Scroll, the Woman on the Beast, the Four Horsemen, and Crown Him With Many Crowns!
Sometimes it can be very hard to see meaning in passages such as this. These visions, what are they? Mountains of bronze. Four chariots with red, black, white and dappled horses. A basket with Wickedness in it. A flying scroll!
John Bunyan’s Catechism from the second Pilgrim’s Progress book has a wonderful reminder for us.
Q. What do you do when you meet with such places in the Bible that you do not understand?
A. I think that God is wiser than I. I pray also that He will be pleased to let me know all therein that He knows will be for my good.
God is wiser than we are! This is a good thing!
And you know, we do see Jesus here in this passage. “Behold, the man whose name is the Branch; for he shall branch out from this place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD.”
In John, we read Jesus saying, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
Here is Jesus, the man whose name is the righteous branch of Jesse! (Isaiah 11)
* Lord God,
Please let us know what it is from Your word that You have in store for us, for our good.
We praise Your Name.
