Life was hard, so hard that a group of Jewish Christians was thinking of abandoning Christ and returning to Judaism. What truths are expressed here about Christ? First Century Jews thought highly of angels.
After two and a half years walking through God’s word, we come to the book of Hebrews!
And what an opening this is.
We have seen throughout the Bible that Jesus is the center, the crux, the cornerstone and capstone, beginning and end.
Hebrews is of course not different in its message, as this first chapter shows.
Importantly, there should be no doubt in our minds when we read this passage that Jesus is God.
Not just “a son of God”, not just “a better being than angels” – But GOD HIMSELF.
There are groups of people who have twisted and turned this passage, trying to fit God’s word into their own mindset, their own man-made framework.
We can be encouraged that here we see the truth of Jesus – God the Son, one member of the trinity. One God, three beings.
That He is the radiance of God’s glory. The exact imprint of His nature.
And that Jesus keeps the universe spinning with His power! With the WORD of His power!
This is not some lower-case god, some celestial being of power that God uses.
Here is God Himself!
* Father God,
Thank You for Jesus, who became flesh for our sake.
Thank You that though He was God, He humbled Himself for our sake.
Thank You for Your love for us, Your care for us, Your Will that works good for us.
Please make us more like Jesus each day. Please write Your word upon our hearts. Please grow and equip us to be Your light and salt in this world.
