There is a lot of detail here about the Temple, just like with the Tabernacle in Exodus. Corporate worship is to be at the centre of the life of God’s people. Corporate worship has a place in spiritual health and growth that is undervalued today by western evangelicals. We mirror the individualism of our western culture.

SJA Notes

* God Above, You reign, let the earth rejoice, let the many coastlands be glad!

“When the house was built, it was with stone prepared at the quarry, so that neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was being built.”

There was a deep reverence in the building of the template, this was God’s house!

Look at the detail and the splendour that goes into this building.

In Jesus we know that we, today and all the years back and all of them forward, are God’s temple here on earth (1 Corinthians 3:16-17).

We can reflect on the same truths we read in this passage today, deepened and brought to greater light.

There is great detail and splendour in our making. In our earthly conception, our growth, but also in our spiritual birth and life/growth!

In Ephesians 4 we read,

“… Created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

God’s temple, we today, are to be full of righteousness and holiness!

We can be strongly encouraged to pursue holiness and to follow Jesus in His righteousness, as we are living stones being built up as a spiritual house (1 Peter 2:4).

* Gracious God,

You are not a man-made image, powerless and futile.

You are the God who made all things, who sustains all things, who will bring all things to the end, and then carry what is eternal into glory.

You are the life-giver, the breath of life, and the Saviour of Your people.

You have made us little tabernacles, You living within us.

Please Lord, help us to be holy as You are holy.

Amen.
