There is a lot of detail here about the Temple, just like with the Tabernacle in Exodus. Corporate worship is to be at the centre of the life of God’s people. Corporate worship has a place in spiritual health and growth that is undervalued today by western evangelicals. We mirror the individualism of our western culture.
Seven years to build the temple!
Look at the detail and splendour that goes into God’s temple here in Solomon’s time.
Verse 7 points us to the deep reverence in the building, that this was God’s house!
“When the house was built, it was with stone prepared at the quarry, so that neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was being built.”
In Jesus we know that in the now we are God’s temple (1 Corinthians 3:16-17), and so we can reflect on the same truths, deepened and brought to greater light.
There is great detail and splendour in our making. Both our mortal conception and growth, but also in our spiritual rebirth! Ephesians 4 looks at our old and new selves, that our new self is,
“… Created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
God’s temple, us today, is to be full of righteousness and holiness!
We are to be strongly encouraged to pursue holiness and to follow Jesus in His righteousness, as we are living stones being built up as a spiritual house (1 Peter 2:4).
* Gracious Lord Above,
You are not a man-made image that is powerless and futile.
You are the God who made all things, who sustains all things. You are the life-giver, the breath of life, and the Saviour of Your people.
You have brought us, Your people, from death to life – Giving us new birth through Your work at Calvary through to the third day and onwards.
You have made us little tabernacles, You living within us.
And You are building many mansions for us in the new heavens and the new earth.
Please Lord, help us to be holy as You are holy.
