SAA Notes

Christians are Abraham’s seed! The Old Testament teaching is that our eternal inheritance depends on God’s promise, and not on the Law of Moses (the ceremonial, food, and civil case law). The Law had a different purpose. It was given to guide God’s people in the process of sanctification until the Christ should come.

SJA Notes

* Dear Lord God, please teach us more of You today, of righteousness and faith, of Your promises to us.

“For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.”

We God’s people have a heavenly inheritance that no earthly one can match.

Paul goes deep here.

Earthly inheritances are brought about through legal means. We make a big deal out of what we leave to our children, to our family, to our loved ones.

But we leave them enshrined in law.

Our heavenly inheritance is not like the earthly.

God has promised to us, enacting a covenant, keeping both sides (Jesus standing in for us, His righteousness).

God’s promise is so much better than an inheritance through legal means.

God’s promise is a covenant from Him.

Let us take this on faith, and wrestle with what falls out of this truth for us, in our lives that God has placed us in.

* Holy God,

You are God, You are the one and only God.

You are one God in three Persons; Father, Son and Spirit.

What a God You are!

Thank You for the covenant promises You give to us. Thank You for the inheritance laid up in glory that we long to obtain.

Amen.
