August 9, Reading 2 – Isaiah 55:1-56:8

SAA Notes

Think of Jesus’ words at the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem in John 7:37,38: “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”

SJA Notes

Look at these promises!

“To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, who choose the things that please me and hold fast my covenant, I will give in my house and within my walls a monument and a name better than sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.”

A name better than sons and daughters! A name that shall not be cut off!

And to foreigners (technically at Isaiah’s time, this is us, non-Jewish peoples) – God will bring us to His holy mountain, and make us joyful in His house of prayer.

This is our God! These are His promises to us!

What a passage this is. What a hope we have. Let’s be encouraged and find joy in these deep truths that the Lord speaks to us through His word.

* Father God, thank You that those who seek after You, despite temporal and earthly debilities, are promised a name that shall not be cut off!

Thank You that though we are foreigners, when we minister to You, love Your Name, be Your servants, keep Your Sabbath (and not profane it), holding fast to Your covenant – That You will bring us to Your holy mountain.

Thank You, gracious Lord and Saviour!
