SAA Notes

Nineveh was the world power of the 8th century BC. Assyria was a vicious and deadly world power. Such forces do not last! Fear God more than such powerful forces. He does last!

SJA Notes

We see here the two paths, the two gates, the two animals; sheep and goats.

Remember the goats!

“But with an overwhelming flood he will make a complete end of the adversaries, and will pursue his enemies into darkness.”

Though even wolves in sheeps clothing seem to be powerful and steadfast, they are marked by the Lord.

Listen to these terrible words from His mouth, for His enemies.

“I will make your grave, for you are vile.”

This is the end of the wide gate, the broad road, the goats who will stand in Jesus’ presence (when He comes to judge) and plead their own righteousness.

But what of the strait gate, the narrow road, the sheep of the good Shepherd?

“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.”

How good is this word! That the Lord is GOOD! That He is a STRONGHOLD when trouble comes.

What then? TAKE REFUGE IN HIM!

It’s a wonderful simple truth, a wonderful simple hope.

And here Nahum echoes Isaiah’s exhortation to spreading the gospel of Jesus:

“Behold, upon the mountains, the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace!”

Amen to that!

* God above, Magnificent Lord, All-Powerful Sovereign King,

Please save our loved ones who are outside of the camp. Call them, hound them, may they repent and believe!

For Lord, the hard message to those on the broad road is one without a sliver of hope. They are Your enemies, and You will make their grave.

And too Lord, we humbly ask, in Your mercy and grace, please strengthen and encourage us to be a people who are bringing the good news of Jesus, publishing the peace that we find in Him!

Amen.
