Politicians 2,700 years ago were just as corrupt as today. As we live in a corrupt world, we must look up to God and see that He is the one who is powerful and strong to do all He has promised. This chapter contains that well-known promise of the precious cornerstone that God will lay – Jesus!
SJA Notes
* Righteous God, You are the one who laid a previous cornerstone in Zion, a sure foundation – Thank You Lord.
“Now therefore do not scoff, lest your bonds be made strong; for I have heard a decree of destruction from the Lord GOD of hosts against the whole land.”
Clearly the Lord is against false religion.
The church leaders and the leaders of the state are together corrupt and leading the people astray.
As we have seen over and again Isaiah, God is against the proud and arrogant, He instead exalts what is lowly and of little seeming important.
“Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a previous cornerstone, of a sure foundation: …”
Isaiah will continue to work through this idea, pointing us to Jesus (Isaiah 53 being a most wonderful passage).
Because our King is the precious cornerstone and the sure foundation.
He was the one the builders rejected, as the apostle Peter preaches in Acts 4, to the leaders of the people,
“This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
What a message this is, what a story we have for those around us – No other name, salvation in nobody else but Jesus!
* Gracious Father God,
Please draw us to You today, step by step.
Please mark us as a faithful people, of Your word and of prayer.
Please show us Jesus today.
Amen.
