Politicians 2,700 years ago were just as corrupt as today. As we live in a corrupt world, we must look up to God and see that He is the one who is powerful and strong to do all He has promised. This chapter contains that well-known promise of the precious cornerstone that God will lay – Jesus!

SJA Notes

* Righteous God, please show us Your word today.

“Now therefore do not scoff, lest your bonds be made strong; for I have heard a decree of destruction from the Lord GOD of hosts against the whole land.”

Clearly the Lord is against false religion and bad practice.

The church leaders and the leaders of the land (church and state) are together corrupt and leading the people astray.

As we have seen God is against the proud and arrogant, and instead He exalts what is lowly and of little seeming importance.

“Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: …”

Isaiah will continue to work through this idea over and over (Isaiah 53 being that most wonderful passage), pointing us to Jesus.

Because our King is the precious cornerstone, the sure foundation.

And He was the one that the builders rejected, as the apostle Peter preaches to the leaders in Acts 4,

“This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

What a message this is, what a story we have for the nations – No other Name, salvation in no one else but Jesus!

* Gracious Father God,

Please draw us to You today, step by step.

Please mark us as a faithful people, people of Your word and prayer with You.

Please show us Jesus today.

Amen.
