SAA Notes

Remember this parable is in response to the Pharisee grumble: This man welcomes sinners and eats with them! Eating with a Pharisee was of course expected and right – but with these? Who does this parable apply to in your life?

SJA Notes

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.”

WHILE STILL A LONG WAY OFF – Here is our story too! We were dead, but our heavenly Father had compassion and made us alive. We were lost, but our Good Shepherd found us, carried us on His shoulders, kissed and embracing us.

We were still a long way off, dead in our sins and trespasses, enemies with God and at enmity with Him!

But our loving God sees us and has compassion. “For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.”

Twice the father says this, once to the servants, and once to the brother.

This is our story! Once we were dead, and now the Good Physician has made us alive again! Once we were lost (still a long way off), and now the Good Shepherd has found us!

Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

* Lord God,

This is our story that You give to us here, the prodigal son.

We are all those who were a long way off. We are all those who were dead in our sins and lost in this world.

But You made us alive in Christ. You found us and brought us home.

Thank You loving Father! Thank You!

Amen.
