SAA Notes

Remember this parable is in response to the Pharisee grumble: This man welcomes sinners and eats with them! Eating with a Pharisee was of course expected and right – but with these? Who does this parable apply to in your life?

SJA Notes

* Holy God, teach us of Your great mercy today, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.”

WHILE STILL A LONG WAY OFF.

Here is our story!

We were dead, but the Good Physician has made us to live again.

We were lost, but the Good Shepherd found us, carried us on His shoulders, kissed and embraced us.

We were still a long way off, dead in our sins and trespasses, enemies with God and at enmity with Him!

But our loving God sees us and has compassion.

“For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.”

Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

* Lord God,

This is our story that You give to us here, the prodigal son.

We are all those who were a long way off, dead in our sins and lost in the world.

But You made us alive in Christ. You found us and brought us home.

Thank You!

Amen.
