SAA Notes

Reflect on verse 2: motives are weighed by the Lord! In terms of verse 25, think about some of the ways has our society declared to be right, but which lead to things falling apart – in the area of modern behaviour, attitudes, morals, standards.

SJA Notes

Wow. There is so much wisdom in here that is so counter to the conclusions we draw on our own, fake-truths that the world spins to anyone that will hear.

Instead of valuing the currency of super smart or strength of arms, God points us to, and values Himself much more, self-control.

Instead of wrapping ourselves in the armor of pride and arrogance, we are to instead be clothed with humility and a lowly spirit.

And here too we have the BIG truth of God’s SOVEREIGNTY and our RESPONSBILITY writ large.

“The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.” v4

“The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” v9

And deeper in, in submitted under God’s will for us, we are to go about His will, committing our work to the Lord (and our plans will be established, v3).

There is this wonderful passage on kings, and verse 15 particularly jumps out, “In the light of a king’s face there is life, and his favor is like the clouds that bring the spring rain.”

We can see Jesus in this, clear and present!

He is the KING in whose light (of His wonderful face) is LIFE!

His favor on us, His people, is the wonderful hope of the farmer come the end of winter and seeing the rain clouds on their way!

Right back in Numbers we see this spoken of, in the Aaronic blessing.

Numbers 6 v24-26 says, “The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

Amen to this.

LORD, please today and each day onwards, please show us Jesus! Let us bask in the light of His face, of Your face – Shine upon us and through us into this dark world!

Amen.
