SAA Notes

Passionate preaching alone should not awe you. Look at the content. In verse 36:21, Elihu says that Job seems to prefer evil to affliction. This misses the point of Job’s anguish and distress. Job believes that God has rejected him and done this deliberately. Job does not know what we know – that Satan is the agent of his distress.

SJA Notes

“The Almighty – we cannot find him;”

We come to the last passage of human debate in the book of Job.

Elihu says some great stuff, God thundering wondrously with His voice, that He does great things that we cannot comprehend.

That is true!

But even in his abundant fervour and passion Elihu misses the true reality.

We can remember back to the beginning of Job, the true heavenly realities that are going on around and about Job.

Satan has been given reign by God to grieve Job. This is a hard word to us.

But God works through even this to bring about His own purposes.

Elihu finishes up with,

“The Almighty – we cannot find him;”

This too can seem like a hard word to the lost and lonely – But it is not the truth!

Praise God for Jesus – That we can find God in and through Him!

As we think on these big questions that are wrestled with in the book of Job – We can be thankful that in Jesus we are safe.

We can hold onto the words from Jesus in John chapter 10,

“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”

Hallelujah – What a Saviour we have!

* Gracious Lord God,

Your Name is holy – Please help us to hallow it.

Your kingdom is one of truth and peace – Please help us to be kingdom people.

Your will is sovereign and true – Please help us to submit underneath it and go about it in our days.

Amen.
