Verse 5 is a wonderful motto for yourself, or a good prayer for your loved ones. This is an excellent verse to memorise.

SJA Notes

* Loving God, thank You that Your word is right and real and true every day.

“For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.”

Paul has a hard word for us, God’s people down through the ages.

Don’t be someone who tries to get out of whatever work the Lord puts in front of us.

Instead,

“As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.”

Be about the good works God has prepared for us beforehand.

While weariness is a reality we wrestle with, our attitude toward doing what God has told us (good) is to be always ready – A fire stoked and fanned and fuelled by the Holy Spirit at work in us (He is strong where we are weak).

* Father God in Heaven,

Please help us in doing good, for we do grow weary.

We grow tired.

Please be our strength, and strengthen us according to Your word – That blessed Word of Life!

Amen.

Let us forsake profitless speculation about the end times or the millennium. Christians waste much time over this. Such speculation only titillates our pride or frightens us silly. How does the Apostle’s advice in verse 15 apply today?

SJA Notes

* Dear God, may Your word speak truth to us today.

“… And with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.”

It is TRUTH that is at the heart of belief (and unbelief).

Either you accept and love the truth (God’s word is truth), or you reject it, refuse to love it.

How important is truth?

“… Because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.”

Truth is of absolute primary importance.

We either believe in the truth of God, who He is, what He has done, what He tells us – Or we do not believe.

There is no middle ground.

Remember Jesus’ words in John 14,

“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

We need to believe in Jesus, God in the Person of the Son – to love Him, for He is truth.

* God Above,

Your word is truth.

You sent Your Son to earth, Your Word become flesh.

Jesus, Your Word become flesh, is truth.

May we love the truth and so be saved.

Amen.

Worthy of His calling! This is a challenging description of the Christian. Who should you pray for regarding this, as Paul prayed for the Thessalonians?

SJA Notes

* Dear God, thank You for Your word to us today. Please write it on our hearts.

“… So that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him,”

Here is a wonderful deep truth.

That in God making us worthy of His calling, fulfilling every resolve for good and every work of faith by His power – In this, Jesus’ NAME is glorified in us!

And more, that we are glorified in Him!

What a great hope and driving intent, that we can be both a vehicle of glorifying the name of Jesus and that in Him we ourselves are glorified in Him (and only Him).

* Lord God,

May You Name be lifted up, may we bear it well today.

Thank You that through Your work in us the name of Jesus is glorified.

Thank You that we are glorified in Him.

Please make us worthy of Your calling.

Amen.
