When we believe that the church has no future, God delights to show us that He has remembered His covenant, even if we think it is impossible for Him. He is the God of RESURRECTION! Also see the twin things that must happen – cleansing from sin and death, and the breath of new life – atonement and the Holy Spirit. John the Baptist said the same thing regarding Jesus in Matthew 3:11.
Here is a picture for the exiles, and those remaining in the land – God will breathe life into dry dead bones!
And this picture, this truth is for us today, shiny and real and important right now.
Paul tells us in Ephesians 2 that we were dead in the trespasses and sins in which we once walked.
We were like the dry bones, scattered across the ground. And so, it leads us to think – Is this true of others today?
Yes! Dead in sin and trespass. Our friends and family, our loved ones and those we pass on the street.
God’s call to Ezekiel is for us too. PROPHESY TO THE BONES!
This is a call for all of us to be Jesus to those around us in thought, word and deed. To the world, salt and light.
Through all of God’s word we read this call, this pattern.
And how good is it that here in Ezekiel God points us again to Jesus, who brings life to our dead bones.
“My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd.”
One shepherd. The Good Shepherd!
* Father God,
Lord above, God of mercy and grace, giver of life to our dry bones.
Thank You! Praise Your Name!
Help us to witness and speak truth, to prophesy to those around us of Jesus, the good news!
