I remember when I read one book that claimed that the locusts mentioned were helicopter gun-ships – viz a viz their guns in the back. This is all science fiction and should be treated as such. The third is mentioned, because this was the share of those who did not inherit! The rule of inheritance in Israel was that the heir got two mouths or bites at the cherry, everyone else divided up the final mouth. Jesus will get two mouths!

* Dear God, Your Name be praised and hallowed today.
“They have as King over them the angel of the bottomless pit. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon.”
If we come to the book of Revelation trying to understand the meaning in a 1:1 meaning with what is happening in history, we embark on a perilous task, especially when trying to understand through the lens of our human intellect (regardless of how vast that might be).
However, we can glean some very clear truths.
These locusts that come after the fifth angel blows his trumpet, they are evil. Their king is the angel of the bottomless pit. Apollyon.
Yet they are bound into the order that God decrees and brings about. They are not outside of God’s command, His sovereign will working out even here in the end times, shrouded in prophetic foretelling.
Even in the darkest of times God is still all-powerful and at work. His design is not thwarted, and He continues to work good through evil, His people at the heart of His purposes.
* Father God,
Please help us understand what You need us to know today, even in these passages of apocalyptic truth-telling.
Please help us to be faithful to You.
Please mark us as a people of Your word.
Thank You that You love us.
