SAA Notes

Promise, prayer, victory! A house (extended family) and throne forever! Verses 17:11-14 are fulfilled in the birth, ministry, death, resurrection, ascension and return of Jesus Christ. Nathan said: your offspring will build My house. Jesus said: destroy this house and I will rebuild it in three days!

SJA Notes

How much of God’s wonderful sovereign overall design is reflected in David’s response, after he had thought to build God a house, and God got back to him with a nope. David says, “For you, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him.”

David thought to build God a house. Instead, God gives that most wonderful promise of a son (Solomon) and a SON (Jesus) to come who would build the temple.

How much awesome is in these words, in this design.

That God turns it around and instead builds a house for David, an eternal inheritance. And this house is for us!

This temple, Jesus, the Word become flesh, broken down on the cross and then raised up into glory on the third day, our new sabbath – Oh Praise His Name!

It’s just that exciting. To read these words. We can get excited reading God’s promises, we should definitely get excited!

Why? Because this isn’t weary duldrum. These aren’t dry and dusty words from old man-made scrolls.

This is the living and true word of God!

Be encouraged to find hope in what God says to David here in this passage. Jesus is David’s greater son. And Jesus is, in a wonderful supernatural probably-never-fully-understand way, God’s temple that we are a part of (living stones, 1 Peter 2).

Praise God, what a Saviour!
