November 4, Reading 2 – Ezekiel 17

Reading

Audio, Visual

SAA Notes

This chapter is about Solomon’s line petering out. Solomon began the worship of idols amongst David’s descendants. God would take a twig of David (through Solomon’s full brother Nathan and so on to Jesus) and will put the government of the nations upon His shoulders. (This is what the picture of the tree is all about.)

SJA Notes

* God Above, please show us Your word today, please help us understand what You are saying to us.

“And all the trees of the field shall know that I am the LORD; I bring low the high tree, and make high the low tree, dry up the green tree, and make the dry tree flourish.”

A prevailing theme through Ezekiel is God’s directing in knowing that HE IS THE LORD.

A recognition.

Whether recognising in this life, bowing before our King in repentance and belief, hidden in the righteousness of Christ, welcomed into His arms. Forever.

OR.

Recognising (too late) on that final day, bowing before THE KING because we can do nothing else, judged on our own merit (we cannot bring forth anything), consigned to the outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. Forever.

This is the tension God’s word holds up to us. A story of hope and of hell. The good news of King Jesus NOW or the judgement of King Jesus THEN.

Will I recognise Him as my King?

Today. I must not wait. I am a sinner in need of a Saviour.

Be found in Jesus today. Repent and believe. Become a sinner saved by God’s grace. Follow Jesus today and onwards, in spirit and in truth.

* Holy God,

You are a holy God.

Please help us to be a holy people today, set apart to follow You, to recognise who You are.

For Your glory.

Amen.
