The Law of Moses teaches us about the ministry of Jesus as our Messiah; about what He was to do. It helps us understand why it had to be that way. Reflect on verses 27,28.
“… So that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance,”
The promised eternal inheritance is ours by way of our Lord Jesus’ death. His sacrifice redeems us from our wrongdoing.
“… And without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”
But why is blood necessary, why death?
Romans 6:23 tells us, “For the wages of sin is death,”
We could not and cannot pay the penalty for our transgressions.
So Jesus took it Himself, He paid the price. He bore our sins at Calvary. Again we see, layered over and over – That Jesus is the key, the crux to understanding this life and the one to come.
And how wonderful that God’s word is clear what the eternal inheritance is, following on in Romans 6,
“… But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Eternal life! And life to the full!
* Father God,
You are the mighty God who created all that we see, and all that we don’t see.
May Your Name be praised.
Please help us to bear Your Name well in our lives. As we are at home and away from home, together with family and apart, as individuals and as the groups of Your people that You place us together in.
And thank You for Jesus, whose blood was shed so that we could be forgiven!
