Tyre was one of the great economic powers of the world – 2,700 years ago. Economic might did not save them from the Iranians when ancient Media and Persia overthrew Babylon (Iraq). The Lord persevered with Tyre, though Tyre remained hardened.
SJA Notes
* Dear Lord God, please write Your word on our hearts today.
“The LORD of hosts has purposed it, to defile the pompous pride of all glory, to dishonor all the honored of the earth.”
Our God is not a limited being, He does not sleep nor slumber.
Our God is active and powerful, He is intentional and His will is worked through all the turmoil and turbulence of all of history.
Our God is loving, gracious and merciful, working good for His people.
And our God works against those who reject Him, those who are proud and arrogant.
Here is today’s passage we are reminded of these truths.
Let us be careful to resist the ideas of the world as they seep into our own thought patterns, our thinking, and to shed them when they do invade us.
Let us be careful to embrace God’s word, which holds within it everything we need for life. Every piece of wisdom that matters can be found in God’s word.
Let us flee from self-pride and work hard at humility.
Let us turn to our God each day, through prayer and His word.
What else have we to do!
* Merciful Father,
Please remind us that You oppose the proud and give grace to the humble.
Please humble us Lord God.
May Your Name be praised today.
Amen.
