Jesus was teaching on the heavy subject of divorce. He thought the little children should be in the congregation to hear Him! Jesus lets someone of eldership material just walk away. He uses this man as an example of His teaching about God’s Kingdom.
Throughout the gospels we see the truth of this, “And again, as was his custom, he taught them.”
Jesus made a habit of teaching the crowds, of bringing God’s wisdom to them.
And in this passage our Lord weighs in on marriage, divorce, children and wealth.
And in His way of turning things upside down, through those topics Jesus weighs in on:
- singular devotion and faithfulness,
- childlike faith,
- who or what has rule over your life,
- how gaining eternal life is impossible with man but possible with God,
- the rewards of that eternal life with Jesus,
- and again the back-to-front order of God’s kingdom.
We can be so thankful for Jesus, for His teaching – Because these are the words of eternal life!
* Gracious Father,
Thank You that Your word is true, a lamp for our feet, a light for our path.
Thank You that Jesus speaks these words of wisdom, words of eternal life.
Thank You that He is Your word become flesh, and that all of Your word points to Him, to His work, to being saved through Him, new hearts and spirits, made alive in Him.
Hallelujah, what a Saviour!
