SAA Notes

Mark’s Gospel can be read in about 1/2 hours. It was written for believers and inquirers in the Roman Empire. Mark begins his Gospel with God’s action in sending His Son. Jesus begins His ministry immediately He is baptised/anointed by God’s prophet John and the Spirit as Messiah. (Just as Saul and David)

SJA Notes

The preaching of John caused a revival in a land that had been silent for many many years.

“John appeared, baptizing in the wilderness and proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”

This was his message, which is God’s message throughout His word.

And what happened?

“And all the country of Judea and all Jerusalem were going out to him and were being baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.”

How amazing this is, praise God for His salvation of these people!

Naaman had a similar experience in the Jordan river. He was told to go and wash in it seven times and his leprous flesh would be cleansed (2 Kings 5).

John points us to the true reality though doesn’t he, “I have baptized you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

This is what matters, that we are reborn into Christ with the washing and anointing of the Holy Spirit!

Repent and believe indeed!

* Father God,

Thank You for Your Holy Spirit, who works within us each day. Please wash the muck and the grime from us this day Lord.

Please refresh our bodies, minds and souls for whatever You have in store for us.

Amen.
