This is a sorry Days of Our Lives story, a warts and all picture of a family of faith. What do you find that encourages you within your family to persevere in prayer and worship?

SJA Notes

* God Above, we come before You today broken in our sin. Please write Your word upon our hearts.

“He said, ‘Are you really my son Esau?’ He answered, ‘I am.'”

The tension between Jacob and Esau has no doubt been simmering for some time. We know that Isaac and Rebekah had each their favourite child, nurturing this tension.

Jacob is revealed to be a driven man, doing what it takes – Even lying about such a big thing to his father who is blind and nearing death.

This is Jacob who will be named Israel.

Jacob who will wrestle with God.

Jacob who will work under the hand of Laban who will short-change him year after year.

Jacob who will eventually have twelve sons, and himself will have a favourite that will be sold into slavery.

Jacob who will leave the promised land to go to Egypt, and finish his life seeing Joseph’s sons, blessing them.

God has great things in store for Jacob, even though he is a trickster and a thief.

This is good news for us!

God Himself works good even through our bad. It can be hard to see, but His word is clear.

Our trust is to be in Him, that He will work all things together for our good.

* Dear Lord God,

Thank You for Your love for us – That while we were still enemies, You worked the greatest good through the worst bad in dying for us that death on the cross.

Please help us to reflect Your love to those around us.

Amen.
