The Messiah of 9:25 is revealed to Daniel in all His glory – the One who looked like a man, and who became man. The Apostle John uses this picture in Revelation 1 – Jesus is revealed as God’s Christ. What does the Lord’s touch do for Daniel? Verse 19.

SJA Notes

* Dear Lord God, please open our ears and eyes, our hearts and minds, to what Your word tells us today.

“O Daniel, man greatly loved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for now I have been sent to you.”

Here we see Jesus!

He is clothed in linen, a belt of fine fold, a body like beryl stone and a face like lightning. His eyes are flaming torches, his arms and legs burnished bronze. The sound of His words are like that of a multitude.

John saw the same vision of Jesus, as we read in Revelation chapter 1,

“His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters.”

This is God in the person of the son, our King Jesus, the Lord’s Christ in truth.

Daniel meets his Saviour, and what a word of encouraged Jesus has for him!

“O Daniel, man greatly loved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for now I have been sent to you.”

Jesus meets us too, speaks to us today. The Son of Man who became man and went to the cross, the curse placed upon Him for our sin.

Let us stand upright, humble ourselves before our God and set our hearts to understand His world.

Listen to Jesus today.

“O man greatly loved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.”

Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

* Father God,

Thank You for Jesus, the sacrificial lamb slain from before the foundation of the world.

Thank You that in Him we are GREATLY LOVED.

Amen.

This is one of the great prayers of the Bible. It involves praise, acknowledgment of God’s righteousness and mercy, confession and petition. God answers Daniel’s prayer immediately. The term Anointed One (v. 25) is literally Messiah or Christ.

SJA Notes

* God of mercy, please forgive us today according to Your great mercy. Please teach us today Lord God, may our hearts be humbled to listen and do.

“To you, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us open shame,”

Why shame?

“To us, O LORD, belongs open shame, to our kings, to our princes, and to our faithers, because we have sinned against you.”

Is that true for us today, that we have sinned against the Lord?

Yes.

What then should out attitude be then?

“For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy.”

It is God’s mercy that saves us – Nothing of our own!

Our righteous acts are as filthy rags (not very righteous at all).

The only righteousness a believer has comes from our King, the Lord Jesus.

So we are shame. But not shame without hope!

“At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved.”

YOU ARE GREATLY LOVED.

This is for us dear friends, brothers and sisters together on this road to glory.

WE ARE GREATLY LOVED.

God loved us so much, from before the foundation of the world, that He sent Himself in the person of The Son to become curse for us, that we might have blessing.

What love this is!

* Father God,

Thank You that despite the shame of our sin – You LOVE us.

Thank You that we can have the righteousness of the RIGHT MAN, Jesus Christ, our King.

Thank You that in Jesus we are greatly loved.

Amen.

Daniel is shown the place that Iran and Greece/Macedonia will have in Israel’s history. Iraq is still the world power. Within Daniel’s lifetime, Iran had conquered Iraq. 200 years later, Macedonia conquered Iran. Because of God’s revelation, God’s people were well placed to survive these catastrophic times.

SJA Notes

* God Above, please show us how to live today from Your word.

“Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.”

Daniel heard a man’s voice, but what a voice!

Jesus, THE Son of Man, commands Gabriel the heavenly being to speak to A son of man, Daniel.

“Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.”

How wonderful it is for us that Jesus gives us understanding. That even with the vast and incomprehensible Sovereign Will of God over and within the rise and fall of nations throughout time – Even in this, Jesus wants us to understand fundamental truths.

That God is Sovereign. That He is in control. That human kingdoms are raised up and pulled down at His command, by His intent.

This is our God!

* Father God,

Thank You that You give us understanding.

Thank You for Jesus’ birth, His life, His blood and death, and for His resurrection from the dead.

Thank You that as we read through the book of Daniel we are able to wrestle to comprehend how Your power is outworked amongst every nation throughout all of time.

Thank You that You are Sovereign. No power can prevail, even when from our limited and frail perspective they may seem to.

Praise Your Name!

Amen.
