SAA Notes

There is Esau and Jacob and then there is Adonijah and Solomon. Adonijah’s name means Jehovah is my Lord, Solomon’s peaceable. The line or seed of promise is opposed from within the people of God. Party strife and rivalry still plague our churches.

SJA Notes

* Mighty God, You reign, robed in majesty. Your throne is established from of old, You are from everlasting.

“As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my soul out of every adversity,”

How beset by trouble is the path of the righteous.

By our own doing, and by the doing of others!

While the king grew old one of his sons took the initiative, gained support, and went for the crown.

Nathan and Bathsheba in turn outmaneuver the son Adonijah (who has Joab with him).

This passage is, at its heart, full of hope even amongst the bad.

See the words of David, God’s faithful servant,

“As the LORD lives, who has redeemed by soul out of every adversity,”

David shows a clear and absolute belief in God’s salvation and His sovereignty.

This should be of great encouragement to us. Here is a broken man who made bad decisions – A man who loved the Lord, who knew and looked forward to Jesus!

David knew that God would REDEEM!

We can praise God today that through Jesus He has redeemed us from every adversity.

* Father God,

Thank You for redeeming us, even as we struggle and are lowly and frail.

Thank You for Jesus, through whom You have brought salvation to us.

Please help us to trust in You even as we go through adversity.

You are our rock, our rescue, our redeemer.

Amen.
