SAA Notes

This passage begins with a wonderful declaration by God: “I, I am the LORD and besides me there is no saviour!” May your heart be warmed and blessed as you ponder on them.

SJA Notes

Twice in this passage we have the Lord telling us that He gives water to the thirsty.

“… For I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, …”

And then, “For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing your descendants.”

It’s clear here that the spiritual water we need is the Holy Spirit!

No other drink, no other wisdom or person or path, can sustain us, revive us, renew us.

John 4 again comes into strong focus here, with Jesus speaking to the woman at the well about the water of life.

“The water that I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

This is a wonderful glorious truth to bask in, and also a very important exhortation.

We are to be a people in whom the Holy Spirit is WELLING UP in! Overflowing, abundantly. Rather than stagnant waters, we are to be ever-flowing with the Spirit.

* Trinity God, Father, Son and Spirit – Thank You that You have called us, saved us, rescued us from darkness and brought us into light!

Thank You that in Jesus (and Him alone) we have the water of life, Your Spirit, welling up in us!

Mark us as a people of Your Spirit dear Lord God.

Amen.
