February 23, Reading 2 – Psalm 49, 50

Both these psalms contain a message to the whole world. What does God warn of and what is He looking for?

“Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life.”

Here is a great deep and hard truth – We cannot save ourselves!

“But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me.”

This is why we need Jesus.

Our King was fully God and fully man, who gave His life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28, 1 Timothy 2:6).

Death (Sheol) is going to claim man. There is nothing we can do about it, as individuals or as humanity together – We cannot defeat death.

But God did, He defeated death at Calvary! He can redeem us from destruction!

Thank You for ransoming our souls from the power of death.

Please help us live in the light of this, witnessing to You in our thoughts, words and deeds.
