February 19, Reading 2 – Psalm 42, 43

Audio, Visual

SAA Notes

This second section of Psalms has a mixed authorship. When you read the psalms, you realise that life has never been easy. Both these psalms have the refrain: put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him! Knowing God, His character, His past behaviour, all combine in the believer as that sure hope!

SJA Notes

So yeah, both these psalms end with the same words,

“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.”

This is the question that we can set to ourselves. At all points in life. In any situation. Any circumstance. Whatever we are feeling, however our heart beats, the turbulence in our minds – We can come to this.

Why is my soul cast down?

Not why as in “how did I get here”, but why as in “there is something that supersedes this”.

And what is it?

In any and every situation that we are confronted with in our lives, this truth permeates and weaves through.

That we can put our hope in God.

He is our salvation, our God. We shall praise Him!

So let’s do that now, let’s praise His name! Hallelujah, what a Saviour!
