Children in church! Jesus is teaching on the heavy subject of divorce, and children are present. The disciples think they shouldn’t be there. Jesus thinks differently!

SJA Notes

* Dear God, please open our hearts to hear what You are teaching us today.

“Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given.”

There are mysteries in life.

There are situations and experiences and reasonings that we will never understand.

We know this because Jesus tells us this is so.

There are mysteries that are only revealed to some.

There are people who are able to go through life limiting themselves in this or that aspect of life.

We might be tempted to assign motive to this from our own (limited) understanding.

However, Jesus’ words here to should cause us to be careful,

“Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given.”

God does not give us a cookie-cutter experience, the same mould, one template for all in this life, every step the same.

God works His will with-in and with-out us (in us and around us). It is His will. He does as He decides, as He pleases.

There are mysteries we will not understand.

How good it is that we have a God who KNOWS. Nothing is hidden from Him.

This is a good truth, and should be a bedrock for us in our own lives.

* Father God,

Thank You for revealing Yourself to us through Your word.

Thank You for showing us so much of Yourself in scripture – thank You for writing Your word on our hearts, so that we might know You better, love You better.

Please help us to be okay that some mysteries we might never understand, trusting that You know them and that is more than enough for us.

Amen.
